NICHIREN DAISHONIN revealed a fundamental solution to the ultimate problem of human existence. He taught that through chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo to the Gohonzon, we could break through any karma and build a state of indestructible happiness within our own lives. The Daishonin stated: “Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which I, Nichiren, now chant will enable all people throughout the ten thousand years and more of the Latter Day of the Law to attain Buddhahood.” (Gosho Zenshu, p720)
EVEN though you practise faith, you may still suffer from illness or various other problems. However, through the principle of “earthly desires are enlightenment”, all problems become the foundation for your happiness, leading you towards enlightenment. Please understand that faith is what it allows this transformation to take place.
WHILE engraving the writings of Nichiren Daishonin on your hearts and making them the basis of your beliefs, you must pursue even broader studies. If all you know all Buddhist doctrines and you can discuss nothing else, your view of Buddhism itself will be imbalanced. Study of all things, which are the introduction to and the transmission of the Buddhist Law, is also necessary.
BENEFIT does not mean that you always enjoy favourable circumstances. Everything is a source of benefit for those of us who practice the Mystic Law which enables us to change poison into medicine.
BECAUSE we experience various hardships, we can savour great joy when we overcome them. And because we surmount them through faith, we solidify our good fortune and grow as human beings.
